Shaping Climate Solutions: UC San Diego Student Voices from COP30 Panelist – Triton Table Talks Series
Dec 10th, 2025
Last month, global leaders met in Belém, Brazil, for COP30 to advance coordinated climate action. UC San Diego sent 22 representatives from Scripps and the School of Global Policy and Strategy, participating in panels, contributing to international media, and elevating ocean-focused climate priorities with global leaders. With shifting U.S. climate commitments, tightening research funding, and growing local and global impacts, this conversation is especially timely. Join us to hear the delegation’s insights, reflections, and takeaways from Brazil—and explore meaningful ways to engage in climate action.
Harnessing Ocean Monitoring Technology for Hazard Mitigation and Carbon Management Panelist – UNFCCC COP30, Belem, Brazil
Nov 15th, 2025
This session showcases how ocean monitoring technologies are critical for understanding and mitigating marine hazards. Experts will use real-time data (satellite to autonomous vehicles) to track heatwaves and oil spills. The session explores how this same data monitors the ocean's carbon budget and informs nature-based climate solutions, like protecting blue carbon ecosystems. This demonstrates the practical application of science and tech for both hazard mitigation and climate change mitigation.
Top 5 Ocean Action Items to Watch at COP30 Panelist – UNFCCC COP30, Belem, Brazil
Nov 12th, 2025
In this student-led panel, Scripps Institution of Oceanography researchers will share their perspectives on the most pressing issues facing our ocean and what we would like to see come out of COP30. Drawing on diverse backgrounds in oceanography, marine biology, chemistry and climate science, the panelists will highlight the most urgent issues that demand attention on the global stage.
